THE SILVER SCREEN

Standing proudly in the heart of Rialto since 1936, the Rialto Cinema was once a bustling community landmark where families gathered, first dates unfolded and audiences escaped into the magic of the silver screen. Though the cinema itself is long gone, part of its distinctive façade remains, serving as a reminder of a time when local picture houses were at the centre of neighbourhood life.

This illustration celebrates the surviving frontage of the Rialto Cinema, capturing one of the last visible links to a beloved piece of Dublin 8 history. The iconic lettering and Art Deco-inspired architecture evoke memories of Saturday matinees, packed evening screenings and the shared experience of cinema before the age of streaming and multiplexes.

Whether you remember the cinema yourself, heard stories from parents and grandparents, or simply appreciate Dublin’s disappearing landmarks, this print honours an important chapter in the social and cultural history of Rialto.

SCHOOL DAYS

Some places stay with us long after we’ve left them behind.

From nervous first mornings and lifelong friendships to school concerts, sports days and end-of-year celebrations, Griffith Barracks Multi-Denominational School has been at the heart of childhood memories for generations of Dublin 8 families. While the school now occupies its striking modern home, its story stretches back many years, with a strong tradition of learning, community and inclusion that continues today.

This illustration captures the distinctive architecture of the school’s contemporary building, a familiar sight for pupils, parents, teachers and neighbours alike. More than just a school, it represents a place where confidence is built, curiosity is encouraged and friendships are formed that can last a lifetime.

COFFEE MORNINGS

A place where the staff know your order, where conversations stretch longer than planned, and where familiar faces become part of the rhythm of everyday life.

For many people in Dublin 8, that place is Noshington Café. Part coffee shop, part meeting place and part community hub, it has established itself as a cornerstone of neighbourhood life.

This illustration captures the café’s distinctive mural, vibrant street presence and unmistakable character.

For regular customers, this print may recall countless mornings spent with a flat white and a newspaper, catching up with friends or grabbing a coffee before work. For former locals, it offers a reminder of a neighbourhood that continues to thrive. For visitors, it captures a side of Dublin often overlooked in guidebooks but deeply valued by the people who live here.
